Winter chill settles over Delhi, gives break to ACs

The light mist which enveloped the city as an indication of arrival of winter on early Thursday morning will stay till the end of the month. ‘Early morning mist will stay in the city at least by 30 October. We can’t say anything about the weather beyond that as we give a prediction of only five days in advance,’ said a senior weather scientist of weather forecast department of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Delhi. The minimum temperature was a nippy 14.9 degrees Celsius, two notches below the average of this time of the season. The arrival of the winter and pleasant weather is also reflected on electricity usage. As per the records of the Delhi Transco Ltd, the peak power demand in the city on Thursday was 3115 MW which is around 1,000 MW less than the average power demand in the summer. The maximum power demand in Delhi in 2012 has been 5330 MW on 22 June.
