Wife set ablaze by husband

In a horrific incident, a man poured kerosene on his wife and set her on fire in full public view at a rotary near their residence in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar here on Thursday evening.

While the accused husband fled the scene, the victim identified as Rubina, was admitted to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital with 75 per cent burn injuries where her condition is said to be critical. The incident took place around 4 pm when the victim’s husband, identified as Rayees Khan, forcibly dragged her to a roundabout near their house in Loni area. Once they reached there, he poured kerosene on Rubina and set her on fire. “Before anyone could react, Khan fled the spot. We got a call from a passer-by around 4.02 pm who informed us about the incident, following which a police team rushed to the spot. By that time, the locals had doused the fire. We rushed her to the hospital,” said a senior police official.
