A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a 40-year-old differently-abled man and his mother two months ago in Rohini. Interestingly, the bottle of a particular brand of whiskey proved to be a key evidence in cracking the case.
According to the police, the accused had taken a whiskey bottle of a particular brand to the victim’s house on the day of incident.
During investigation, the police examined CCTV footage of the area. Later, it emerged that a man, identified as Sanjay Kumar (33), who was also a friend of the victim (Jitender), visited the residence on 11 September, on the day of crime.
The crime branch found a half-consumed whiskey bottle from the victim’s house. Later, when the police team visited Sanjay’s house in Rohini Sector 6 for questioning, they found huge stock of same brand of whiskey there. ‘This turned us suspicious. But he had run away by then’, said Ashok Chand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime).
On Tuesday, police got a tip-off and laid a trap to nab the accused.
On being interrogated, Sanjay Kumar confessed that he had killed Jitender because he was not returning the money he borrowed from him. In early 2014, Sanjay had allegedly lent Jitender
Rs 32,000 and a gold chain. On the night of incident, Sanjay demanded his money back. But when Jitender refused to give it back, he killed him. The accused killed Jitender’s mother, who had witnessed the crime.
Later, he ransacked the house to make it look like a robbery. Sources have also informed that both Jitender and Sanjay were divorced and allegedly had an affair with a common friend.
