When these Satyagrahis graced the Capital

Filmmakers from across the world have been inspired by literature. But trust Prakash Jha to change conventions. The director’s upcoming film, Satyagraha, has inspired a book.

Satyagraha: The Story Behind the Revolution is a compilation of the months of hard work, fun on the sets, costume crises, art direction accidents and how a team of people came together to tell a story of a revolution. The book was launched in Delhi by Jha along with the star cast of the film including Kareena Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Arjun Rampal, Amrita Rao. Missing from the scene were Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn.

Penned by writer Pooja Verma, the book has been published by Om Books International and is priced at Rs. 995. Satyagraha: The Story Behind the Revolution will hit the stands on 1 September.
‘We are happy that the book comes around the release of the film. It really chronicles the whole effort put in by everyone- cast, crew and members, telling readers about the months of hard work, tribulations and gruelling work we have put into the film, and how,’ Jha said.

The writer, Verma, who was also behind the print version of Jha’s film Raajneeti (it was released after the film), said the Satyagraha book is not serious literature. But as the film raises some questions, the book translates some of those questions in to print,’ she said.

Satyagraha, the movie, aims to showcase the process of protests by the country’s middle-class citizens against injustice. Since social media is a big drive for the youth today, it also forms an intrinsic part of the movie and hence the book, said Jha.

The presentation of the content follows the style of the social media. ‘Social media forms a very intrinsic part of our movie as it has become the new language of young people in India,’ he added.
