Severe discomfort resulting from a high temperature, coupled with humidity, gave way to rain relief for the national capital on Thursday. The city recorded 14.6 mm rain, accompanied by thunderstorm and dust-storms.
'The rain was a local development due to overheating on Thursday,' said a senior officer at the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi. 'We expect light rain and thunderstorm on Friday too due to the local meteorological phenomenon,' added the officer.
The maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 43.2 degree Celsius, three points above normal, while minimum was recorded at 25.7 degree Celsius, two notches below the normal. The weatherman has predicted the maximum and minimum temperature on Friday to hover around 41 and 29 degree Celsius respectively.
'Pre-monsoon showers are expected to hit the city on 10 and 11 June,' said the officer. However, Thursday’s rain created traffic jam due to water logging and uprooting of trees.
According to traffic police, traffic jams were reported from Tughlak Road, Prithviraj Road in the New Delhi area, Outer Ring Road near Lajpat Rai Marg, Okhla in south Delhi, and Rani Bagh, Patel Nagar in west Delhi.
