Western Coalfields Ltd powers FY15 output 3.6% to 41.15 mt

WCL dispatched 41.25 MT coal, registering a growth of 3.3 per cent over 39.95 MT in the corresponding period. The last growth in coal production over corresponding year was recorded in 2009-10 and since then, the production was in the negative zone.

WCL, which posted operational loss in last three consecutive fiscals, recorded operational profit on strength of its physical performance, the company said without disclosing figures.

The firm also set up three new coal projects of seven MT per annum capacity during 2014-15 and has set a target to establish 10 new coal projects of 16.62 MT per annum capacity during 2015-16, it said. The over-burden removal of 122.91 million cubic metres (mcm) during FY14 was 2.36 per cent over last year’s 120.08 mcm. Productivity of underground mines registered a growth of 4.67 per cent at 1.12 tonnes per shift as compared 1.07 tonnes per shift in 2013-14.

Productivity of open-cast mines was recorded at 5.71 tonnes/shift which was 121.48 per cent more than the targeted 4.70 tonnes/shift and has registered a growth of 11.52 per cent over last year’s 5.12 tonnes/shift.

Overall productivity during financial year 2014-15 stood at 3.26 tonnes/shift, up 111.6 per cent than targeted 2.92 tonnes/shift. It is 10.50 per cent more than 2013-14 when the overall productivity stood at 2.95 tonnes/shift.

The company has performed remarkably well in coal offtake, it said.

Rake loading of 16 rakes per day during the period under review was up by 2.4 per cent over last year’s 15.60 rakes/day.

Dispatch by rail mode was 22.72 MT as against 22.32 MT in 2013-14, a growth of 1.8 per cent. The company has dispatched 30.96 MT to power sector, which is 2 MT more than the targeted 28.96 MT, up 6.8 per cent over last year’s 29.00 MT.

In order to build up comfortable coal stock at power plants, the company has dispatched additional coal to the tune of 2.28 MT to state-owned power gencos over last year on ‘as is where is basis’, the statement said. WCL has been successful in reducing its pithead coal stock by 1.8 per cent which was 5.49 MT as on April 1, 2015, as against 5.60 MT on April 1, 2014.
