Wendell Rodricks goes ‘timeless’ for LFW

By Dominick Rodrigues

Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks held an exclusive preview of his ‘Timeless’ collection in Mumbai on Tuesday, where he showcased a line that was all about ‘ageless purity of line, colour and form that is inspired by the eternal beauty of the classics’ that will be highlighted at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 in August.

Renowned for his minimalist approach, resort flavour and Indian geometry, the designer said: ‘This season, I have drawn from the zero, sari, kurta, dhoti and the drapes of India to create a collection heightened by a palette of white, black, grey, gold skin and cranberry brown with a hot mix of fuchsia, saffron, burnt orange, sunshine yellow and iced glacial water.’

‘Timeless is a collection that is Indian at its core and yet international in terms of appeal,’ said the designer.

‘I have always done clothes which are international in wearability and Indian in inspiration. This time I did a switchover and I am going to keep it Indian and inspirational,’ said the designer, adding, ‘We infuse these very Western colours — black, grey, brown and white — with splashes of Indian colours. The theme is slightly drawn from the abstract Indian, from the concept of the square to the geometry of circles, and then converted so that it is a celebration of Indian timelessness.’
