Weekly drive to focus on particular vehicles

According to a senior government official, the transport department has prepared a blueprint of the drive to be held every Saturday to check vehicles, including polluting ones, <g data-gr-id="31">plying</g> in the national capital.
“The aim of the special drive is to tighten <g data-gr-id="27">noose</g> around errant vehicles which are not complying with norms laid down by the transport department.
“As per the plan, we will conduct special drive across the national capital which will be dedicated to particular vehicle on every Saturday during which all our staff will come down with full force,” the official said.
For instance, if the department plans cabs for the drive on a week, transport department officials will keep a close vigil on all cabs and taxis, including the yellow-black, in different parts of the national capital.
“With such drive, we can make our crackdown against errant vehicles more efficient. During the drive, we will check all documents and if any vehicle is found to be violating rules, the department’s official will take strict action against them,” the official said.
The main focus of the drive will be on polluting vehicles against whom the department will take the strict action, department officials said.
Concerned over increasing air pollution in Delhi, Chief Secretary K K Sharma had recently convened a meeting with officials of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan and discussed various steps including installation of weigh-in-motion systems on border points.
