The budget session of Delhi Assembly could be a stormy affair as principal opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Dal (BJP), has decided to push the 27 contending issues, such as suicide of Amanaat gang rape accused in high security Tihar jail, security of women, pollution in Yamuna and regularisation of unauthorised colonies, price rise, inflated power and water bills, aggressively.
‘The suicide of the main accused Ram Singh, 33, is a major security lapse in a high security prison like Tihar Jail where several terrorists are lodged in. As the prison comes in the jurisdiction of Delhi government, the Chief Minister of Delhi can’t shift the responsibility. We demand a judicial inquiry into the matter,’ said V K Malhotra, leader of opposition.
He further added several illegal activities are being conducted from jail by dreaded criminals but Delhi government is silent on the issue. Besides this, the party will raise issues of law and order, privatisation of Delhi Jal Board, problems created by bouncers and personal security guards, shortage of teachers, water crisis.
The opposition has served notice to raise 27 issues in the house.
‘The city is filled with issues and problems but Congress doesn’t want discussion so they make the house session very short,’ said Malhotra demanding more days for the session. At present the budget session would last four days.
The house is likely to face chaos on security of women as BJP is planning its strategy on the statement of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on International Women’s Day that even her daughter is not safe in the city. ‘If she is not able to protect her own daughter then what will be the security of women in the city. She must resign immediately and along with her, home minister and prime minister should also resign,’ said Malhotra.
In replying to a question he said Congress is misusing the power of majority in the house to buckle the opposition but he along with his party colleagues will continue the fight inside the house and on roads without any fear of repercussions.
