Stung by the accusations against her, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday claimed that her government is responsive and sensitive to the needs of Delhi.
According to her, it swung into action immediately after the horrible gang rape incident on 16 December 2012 and instilled a sense of security among women in the city. She pointed towards the dedicated helpline for women in distress that was set up in the CM’s secretariat and, five fast-track courts.
‘The government expressed its deepest shock over the incident and provided ex-gratia amount of 15 lakh and a flat to victim’s family. Apart from this, it was decided that employment will also be given to one of the family members of the victim.’
The transport department deployed GPS and home guards in its buses, claimed Dikshit, while concluding the Assembly. The motion was passed in the house after the detailed reply of Dikshit.
Dikshit also expressed surprise over the filmsy observations of the leader of opposition during the debate.
According to her, the leader of opposition made baseless allegations against the government. Dikshit held that her government is transparent, clean, pro-people and development-oriented and that it has been working for the welfare and uplifting of all its citizens, including weaker sections.
She further said the opposition has not been able to list any single case of CWG corruption, which has been proved till today. She added that a total of 6,585 complaints of corruption have been received in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation from April 2012 to February, 2013. ‘Has any action been taken by the BJP, the ruling party in the corporations?’
While referring to an allegation on recommendations of parole, Dikshit made it clear that the convicts have a right to avail parole for a limited period on certain prescribed and reasonable circumstances of good behaviour.
