WC bookies: Police bust syndicate for placing Rs 75L bets

With the arrest of three persons, the police have cracked a betting syndicate operating from North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area. The syndicate was allegedly dealing with bets worth around Rs 75 lakh on the 2015 ICC World Cup final match between Australia and New Zealand.
The police had got a tip off about betting activities reportedly taking place at a room in Old Sabzi Mandi area, following which a raid was conducted after observing all the legal formalities
“During the raid, three persons identified as Amit Sharma (32), Gaurav (30) and Mohit (32) were apprehended from the spot. Nine mobile phones, one LCD TV, one laptop and other things were recovered from the spot,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North). One mobile phone was being used as “Dabba” (Voice Hot Line Box) for receiving the rates while other mobile phones were being used for accepting bets. The match summary report of total betting till the time of the raid was found approximately Rs 75 lakh.
