‘WB tops in medium, small investment’

‘I wish to share with you a significant achievement in the Micro and Small Scale Industries (MSME) sector in West Bengal. We are number one in credit flow in the MSME sector in the country,’ said Banerjee on her Facebook page on Saturday.

She goes on to explain that during the period April-September 2012, the credit flow from banks in MSME sector in Bengal was the highest at Rs 4331 crore.’ Again, we are still number one during the period April-September 2013, with the highest credit flow of Rs 8900 crore to the MSME sector. This is more than 105 per cent increase on year-to-year basis,’ she says.

Abhirup Sircar, chairman of WBIDFC (West Bengal Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation), said: ‘The state’s land to man ratio is very poor. So, agriculture is not an option here anymore. The next viable investment is obviously in the MSME sector’.

Few other states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have recorded an average growth below 50 per cent. Banerjee explained: ‘This has been possible due to the persistent follow-up of the West Bengal government in providing the entrepreneurs all necessary assistance for setting up and running business successfully’.
