Two suspected terrorists, including a Bangladeshi national, were reported to be arrested by the West Bengal police from Noida city earlier. The arrested men were identified as Rakatullah and Abdul Aziz. Though initial reports suggested that they were arrested for their alleged role in last year’s Burdwan blasts, police sources said no connection to Burdwan module or the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which was held responsible for the incident, could be established yet.
Police sources said that the arrested men’s laptops contained “jihadi materials” and there interrogation had revealed that they were “part of sleeper cell”. According to sources, the arrests were made on December 19 from Noida in a joint operation by anti-terror squads of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and Intelligence Bureau (IB). Police were still carrying out searches in different areas of Delhi and Noida looking out for more terrorists.
Intelligence sources said more than 50 terror modules have been operating out of West Bengal. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had conducted several raids in Bengal last year.
