The disruption in water supply here may continue for a couple of more days until ammonia levels at three of the major Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) fall to permissible limits, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said on Monday.
The DJB stopped water supply to a large part of the national capital on Sunday night after it found an excessive rise in ammonia levels at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla WTPs. “Due to the rise of ammonia to 3.8 parts per million (ppm) in the Yamuna river, we had to stop the water supply. Such rise was excessive and could not be treated at the plants. The permissible limit of ammonia in water fit to drink is 0.5 ppm,” an official from Delhi Jal Board said.
Water Tankers will be available on demand at phone number 1916, the DJB said in a statement.
