‘We wanted a discussion on BJP’s assurance to solve our water crisis but BJP workers did not allow us to ask questions,’ said Sudhan Kulkarni, general secretary of Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies of Dwarka to mediapersons.
The association claims to represent 349 group housing societies in Dwarka sub-city. The members sported placards in the meeting and shouted slogans demanding the minister to solve their water woes.
According to sources, Jaitley later asked the protesters’ delegation to meet him on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the union finance minister highlighted the positive aspects of budgets of central government and Delhi government with a request to RWAs to spread the message among people.
‘Around 84 per cent of small and middle class consumers in Delhi would get relief in electricity bills through special subsidy and soon may witness reduced tariff also,’ said Jaitley. He further added that his government does not believe in selling dreams.
‘We intent to build a beautiful national capital and in this we will not sell dreams of comparing
Delhi with European cities,’ said Jaitley.
He further added that to increase the electricity production in the country, which shall prove to be a boon for economic growth, the government has allowed tax relief on all investments in power sector till 2017.
He said that despite all constraints the government had tried to give Delhi more hospital beds, ambulances and other healthcare measures apart from a special Budget provision of about Rs 3,000 crore for development of Delhi’s power, water, sewerage infrastructure and for development work in unauthorised colonies as ‘we wish to make Delhi a beautiful city’.
Hundreds of representatives of RWAs attended the function organised in Constitution Club.
