An alliance of 33 dissenting parties, led by a Maoist breakaway faction, today agreed with Nepal's four mainstream parties to hold an all-party meeting soon to end the political deadlock plaguing the country.
A meeting, held between the the alliance and the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) comprising of representatives from UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Moracha, decided to hold the all-party roundtable, Nepali Congress sources said.
Emerging from the meeting, the leader of the alliance, CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Vaidya, said that the talks with the HLPC were positive and they have agreed to hold an all-party conference soon.
The 33-party alliance had earlier said that they would not join the election process unless an all-party meeting is not convened.
The alliance was demanding that the current interim election government led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi should be replaced with a government formed by political entities, a new election procedure and the 25-point decree on clearing the constitutional hurdles issued by President Ram Baran Yadav should be scrapped.
