War of words: Modi, Mulayam liven it up

‘Congress speaks about the poor all the time, but they remember them only when elections are near. In so many years, the party spoke so much about the poor but still there is no change in their condition,’ he said while claiming that he has found the answer to it that Congress wants the poor to remain poor.

‘When they could not tolerate a tea seller, how could they think good of the poor?,’ the Gujarat chief minister claimed. Addressing the sixth Vijay Sankhnaad rally here in eastern Uttar Pradesh,  Modi said Congress is just exploiting the poverty of the country for its own benefit.

He further questioned, ‘Can you get food in 12 or five rupees? If this is not a joke on poor, then what is?’  He claimed that it is the poor who suffer and die and the governments in UP and Delhi are not interested in fighting against poverty. Turning towards UP and on ruling SP, Modi said UP has been given so many gifts by God and in 10 years, it could have outshone any other state but unfortunately, the political parties ruling the state has no vision.

Cracking a joke on SP leadership, he said ‘nowadays, wherever I go, the father and son follow me and on Thursday in Varanasi, they said that Modiji cannot turn UP into Gujarat.

‘Netaji, do you know the meaning of making Gujarat? 24x7 electricity in every single village. You are correct Netaji, you cannot make Gujarat. For this, a 56-inch chest is required. For the last 10 years, Gujarat has progressed and is still progressing. You cannot do this,’ he commented. He suggested to SP leaders that if UP is turned into Gujarat, people of Gujarat will move to Uttar Pradesh. ‘You are unable to give respect to women, nor can you provide development. If we have to remove poverty from the country, UP can alone remove it,’ he said.

Modi questioned UP leaders that when they have animals, men, food and water, why do they need to get milk from outside? ‘Can we not get an Amul Dairy in UP too?,’ he asked.

BJP president Rajnath Singh, former UP CM Kalyan Singh and local BJP MP Yogi Adityanath were also present at the rally. Claiming that India will be Congress free soon, Modi said the presence of youth in this rally itself is a proof that people want a change.’Wherever I look, I can see people, Janta Janardan ke darshan ishwar darshan ke barabar hote hain,’ was his comment over the crowd.

‘BJP has selected a wrong face’

Lucknow:
Lambasting the Baharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for selected a wrong face as its prime ministerial candidate, Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday said the state not be allowed to be turned into another Gujarat.

Without taking the name of BJP prime minister candidate Narendra Modi, Yadav said the party has really made a bad choice. ‘How can BJP choose a person, accused of massacre in Gujarat, as its prime ministerial candidate for the scheduled parliamentary polls,’ the SP president questioned while addressing ‘Desh Bachao, Desh Banao’ rally in Varanasi.

People of UP will never be allowed to suffer like the Gujarat denizens, he assured. ‘Terror was so widespread in Gujrat in 2002 that policemen then warned me against visiting that state,’ the SP president recalled.

Also, no leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party can have any comparison with such a politician,  Yadav remarked.

The SP supremo further chided the Congress for growing prices of essential commodities and widespread corruption. ‘SP only advocates humanity and wants to efface the difference between the rich and the poor,’ he noted.

He asked the people to lend their support to the SP and ensure that the party wins the maximum seats and have a major say in the formation of the next government at Centre.

Yadav further termed the current Congress-led UPA government at the Centre as ‘weak’ and ‘incapable’. The SP president tagged the religious city Varanasi as the work place of party leader Raj
Narayan, who even defeated former prime minister Indira Gandhi, and made remarkable contribution in the political arena.

Two held for carrying knives into Modi’s rally

LUCKNOW: Two men were detained on Thursday for carrying large knives into the venue of a rally in Uttar Pradesh to be addressed in the afternoon by BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, police said.

The men were detained hours before the Shankhnad rally of the Bharatiya Janata Party was to begin in Gorakhpur, ahead of the arrival of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.  The men, both in their mid-40s, were whisked away by policemen to the Chilwataal police station nearby for interrogation.
