Delhi police said they have arrested a man wanted in 19 cases of murder, dacoity, robbery and snatching spread across six states.
Govind Ram, who hails from Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, carried a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head announced by Delhi police.
He was wanted in the case of his brother-in law’s murder in 2001, police said.
He is also wanted in cases involving robbery, murder, snatching and dacoity in Mysore (Karnataka), Navsari (Gujarat), Haryana, UP and Delhi, police added.
Following a tip-off, Ram was arrested on Wednesday after a brief scuffle from a park near the DDA Community Centre in GTB Enclave in north-east Delhi when he had gone there to meet with somebody.
‘During questioning, Ram told police he was sentenced to life imprisonment in two cases in Haryana but had been absconding after jumping parole in 1998.
‘He revealed he had committed dacoities in different parts of India since then,’ said additional commissioner of police (crime), Ravindra Yadav.
‘Later, in 2001, when he came to know that his brother-in- law had developed illicit physical relations with his wife and was also exploiting his daughter, he killed him by chopping off his head with a sharp-edged weapon and mutilating the body,’ said Yadav.
