Virbhadra Singh terms Jaitley’s allegations baseless

Facing allegations of corruptions, Himachal Congress president and five time chief minister Virbhadra Singh said that all the allegations leveled against him are absurd, baseless and he is open to any kind of investigation.

Singh termed the revelations made by Arun Jaitley leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday against his revised Income Tax return claiming it as money trail of Ispat Industries kickback as an attempt of character assassination by him and BJP.

Countering the allegations point by point Singh said that he revised the IT returns this year which is very much permissible under the Income Tax law. ‘It is on record that whatever income I have is due to my horticulture business,’ said Singh.

‘The second part of the allegation was that I had two agreements for the same piece of land but actually there two sets of contract one with Bishambhar Dass for harvesting the produce of one of my orchard at Srahan in Rampur,’ said Singh.

He added that other contract was with Anand Chauhan an LIC agent, whom he had met at Kotkhai of Shimla district couple of years back and after learning of his marketing skills, he entered into second contract with him for managing and marketing of produce from all the orchards. ‘I have several orchards registered under one name Sri Khand orchards. Since I am active politician I am unable to manage by business properly, so had to enter into agreements with professional people,’ he claimed.

Singh said that whatever Arun Jaitley has said is absurd and baseless and if IT department had any problem, then till now he might have got notices. ‘I have not received any Income Tax department notice, till now but if still any wrong appears, I am open to any kind of investigation,’ added Singh ‘No one has any proof of alleged kickback money being routed into the bank account of Anand Chauhan and only baseless allegations are leveled to score political mileage during the elections,’ said Singh.

Replying to the query on Ispat Industries and IT raids while he was union steel minister Virbhadra Singh said that he had met one of the owner of the company Pramod Mittal only once but has no idea of IT raids or any recoveries which had entries kickback to VBS.

He alleged that these entries are merely random entries made by the companies to route the money through Hawala transactions. ‘I have already demanded CBI probe into the recoveries made in the IT raid but the timing of revelations suggests that it is a controversy to malign me,’ added Singh.
