Violence-hit East Delhi colony returns to normalcy, slowly

People were back to their normal routine after days of uncertainty in Trilokpuri, which has been the epicentre of communal violence.

It was a joyous day for hundreds of people, who celebrated Chhath Puja without any fear of being pulled up by police. The cops allowed them to perform their rituals at the nearest ghat in East Delhi.

Most of the shops and  showrooms in the area were open and the residents were seen shopping for necessary commodities such as medicines, milk, vegetable, etc. Some of the residents even stocked up extra supplies as a preventive measure. Meanwhile, Delhi government has also made a special arrangement to provide ration to the residents of Trilokpuri.

Six trucks loaded with ration were parked at Sector 20 and 21, from where the violence was triggered on Diwali. Flour, pulses, rice, salt and sugar were provided by the government at comparatively low prices. Surprisingly, a milk seller was found distributing contaminated milk for free.

‘We had stored 700 litres of milk to sell it on Diwali. But the shop were closed since then.  When the shops opened I decided to sell the milk for free,’ Kanchan, the owner of the shop said. According to senior police officials, the current  situation is being monitored with more caution.

Meanwhile, the number of person arrested for their alleged involvement in the riots have gone up to 68 after the Delhi Police used mini-drones mounted with cameras to search the Trilokpuri area.
