His entry into the residential areas of Lutyens’ Delhi is followed by a small goods carrier mounted with huge sound boxes and loud speakers playing the famous song from Aamir Khan’s blockbuster Peepli Live on price rise — sakhi saiyan to bahutai kamat hain, mehgai dayan khai jat hain (all the earning is being gobbled up by skyrocketing prices).
‘Sheila Dikshit never comes to these people after election, I promise them to be avalible round the clock for them,’ said Vijender Gupta, former Delhi BJP president who has been fielded by the party to challenge Dikshit in her den. ‘People are fed up with misrule and fake promises made by Dikshit. The New Delhi area which is the poshest area of the country has over 27 slums despite Sheila Dikshit representing the seat since last 15 years,’ he added. He does not forget to mention ‘messed up’ development work at Connought Place which according to him is the symbol of loot of public money.
‘This time trust us, vote for the BJP. We will change the city and also your fate,’ says Gupta to every voter he meets during his door-to-door campaigning. Millenium Post caught up him around 11 am at Gole Market area in New Delhi and followed his campaign in the servants quarters of North Avenue. ‘I am doing door-to-door campaigning since 6 am. It’s my target to meet every voter as many times as possible,’ he added.
His promises for the constituency include solving the hiked electricity bills of residents in Dhobi Ghat areas, resolve the issue of slums and JJ clusters in the area, development and beautification of Connaught Place within six month, and ensuring better upkeep and maintenance of roads and public amenities to people.
