Amidst an intense debate on whether the juvenile convict in December 16 Delhi gang-rape case should have been released, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta on Sunday said the release of juvenile convict was highly unfortunate and the Central government had already opposed it on every forum.
The Lok Sabha has already passed the Amendments in the Juvenile Justice Act. As per one of the Amendments in the Act any 16-18 year old who commits a heinous offence may be tried as an adult.
Gupta further said that due to his release, despondency is pervading the entire society and not just Jyoti’s parents. Justice has lost, posing serious questions on the current laws in the country. He also condemned the arrest of Nirbhaya’s parents, calling it unfortunate.
