‘Vigilance officer’ at HC held

A 25-year-old man was arrested from Janakpuri in west Delhi, who used to impersonate an Investigation Officer, Vigilance, Delhi High Court, to cheat people. He used to assure the victims that he had links with the officials of the court and will sort out all pending litigations.

‘Rakshit Kumar Gautam, a resident of Vishwas Park at Uttam Nagar, was arrested from Janakpuri on Saturday,’ said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of Police (West). Gautam was arrested on police complaints filed by two women on Friday.

The first complaint was filed by Neelam Rani, a resident of Janta Flats. Rani told police that Gautam took Rs 1.8 lakh as court fee and Rs 1.85 lakh as his own fees to ‘settle a dispute regarding her property at Savitri Nagar in Malviya Nagar in south Delhi’. She told police that he convinced her that he had good contacts in the court and can get any property dispute settled.

The second complaint was filed by Rani’s neighbour Kusum Lata, who came to knew she has also been duped by Gautam after a casual talk with Rani.

Immediately, on the same day, Lata registered a complaint against Gautam at the police station. She told police that he promised her to settle her property dispute and asked for Rs 2.5 lakh. She had already paid Rs 1.5 lakh in advance.

She also stated that Gautam will come to meet her to collect the remaining  amount at her residence.

The police then laid a trap outside Lata’s house on Saturday and nabbed Gautam. During interrogation, Gautam told police that he used to cheat uneducated people, who couldn’t understand the documents prepared by him at various courts.

‘We have recovered a forged identity card of Delhi High Court, a fake seal and other forged documents related to courts,’ said Renganathan.

Gautam told police that he graduated from Moti Lal Nehru College in Delhi and thereafter, worked as accounts assistant with an Ayurvedic company located in Daryaganj for a year.

He left that company  and started working as PVC supplier from Delhi to Bangalore. Finally, he started taking contracts for repair and construction of buildings.
