Vendor faces bullets for making omelette without onions in UP

An egg vendor was shot at by a history-sheeter in Etah district for not using onion while making omelettes. The incident took place on Saturday evening near Aliganj market when the egg vendor Deepu Kashyap was busy catering to his customers.

Around 7.30pm on Saturday, Yogesh alias Khurana reached his stall along with his relative identified as Pujari and four more friends. The group ordered omelettes and Kashyap served the preparations to the group. Khurana after having a bite realised that Kashyap had not used onion while preparing the omelet. He picked up a fight with him and the group began to assault Kashyap.

Local shopkeepers gathered at the spot and tried to intervene. Kashyap sensing trouble whipped out a countrymade pistol and fired at Kashyap with an intention to kill him. The bullet grazed past his forehead and Kashyap was taken to a local government hospital for treatment. Sanjay Kumar Yadav, additional superintendent of Etah police said that Kashyap was out of danger.

A case was lodged against Khurana, Pujari and four more unidentified persons under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 386 (extortion) among other charges. The group escaped from the area and efforts to nab them were underway.

‘Kashyap used to stay at Pujari’s house located in Palara village. Pujari is his brother-in-law. Several cases against him have been registered at Mainpuri and further details are being gathered,’ said Ashutosh Pandey, inspector general of Agra zone police.
