Vendor default causes smart card shortage: Roushan Ali

Issuing of registration certificates (RC) at the 14 centres of Delhi Transport Authority has been suffering for more than two months because of an acute shortage of smart cards. The department is short of at least one lakh smart cards. ‘After a long gap, the authority received 50,000 smart cards on Thursday, but it needs 50,000 more before it can restart registration of vehicles,’ a senior transport official said. The transport department has outsourced the task of making smart-card-based registration certificates to a private company – Shonkh Technologies, which has failed to meet the demand.
