“The department has also asked the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) to register an FIR against the VAT inspector, who was caught with the bribe of Rs 5,000 taken from the complainant dealer on May 6,” said a senior government official. The department has taken a “serious” view of this incident and has initiated proceedings to dismiss the VAT inspector, he said.
A team of officers of the department has recovered the bribe amount from the inspector at Ward 93 office. The details of the bank notes recovered matched with those provided by the dealer in his complaint, the officer said. The process of recovery was videographed to build a foolproof case against the accused. The department has filed a complaint with the ACB along with the video clip of recovery of bribe money and other documents to lodge an FIR against him.
