Vasant Kunj maid responding to medication, say doctors

The 18-year-old Santhal girl from Jharkhand rescued around a fortnight ago from a posh Vasant Kunj house where she was engaged as a domestic worker and was assaulted by her employer for over three months is responding well to the medication and is physically and mentally stable, doctors at Safdarjung Hospital said.

The girl underwent plastic surgery at the hospital on Tuesday to seal a deep wound on her scalp.
According to the hospital authorities, the girl is likely to stay in the hospital till this week and will be moved to Jharkhand Bhawan as she still needs constant medical care to recover from the injuries inflcted on her head, face and the body.

‘The surgery has been successful and it was like a routine operation. Also, it was highly crucial to let the wounds on the scalp heal to avoid any complication. Since she suffered a deep wound on her scalp, skin grafting was performed to assist in further healing.

‘As of now, she will remain in the hospital for a few more days and after seeing signs of recovery, a decision on discharging her from the hospital will be taken,’ said BD Bhutani, medical superintendent at the hospital.
