Rattled by reports over delay in commissioning of all the six All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a pet project of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Narendra Modi government has issued a directive to all the proposed AIIMS for completion in the next 6-9 months.
Union health minister Harsh Vardhan, who is under attack over the delay in this ambitious project, in his tweet on a social networking site Twitter said that the AIIMS-Bhopal would be operation on the birthday of 89-year-old Vajpayee. The country celebrates 25 December (nearly after six months from now) as the birth day of the former prime minister. The union health minister in his tweet said, ‘What a beauty AIIMS Bhopal is turning out. Atalji would surely have been proud today. Hope to dedicate it to nation by Dec 25, his birthday.’
Earlier Millennium Post had reported that the grand plan of prime minister Narendra Modi to have AIIMS in each of the 29 states may suffer due to inertia in the health ministry as the government was still to make operational even one of the six AIIMS it had started outside New Delhi over ten years back.
