Uttarakhand’s Char Dham Yatra all set to begin from Monday

The most-awaited Chardham Yatra will open for pilgrims with the opening of Yamunotri and Gangotri temples on 13 May. Every year, this yatra attracts tourists in large numbers from other states especially from Bengal and Bihar. The Kedarnath shrine will reopen on 14 May, while Badrinath shrine will be reopen on 16 May for the pilgrims.

Apart from religious angle, the picturesque valley, crystal-clear water of holy rivers and rich flora and fauna of Garhwal is the major attraction for tourists. The Chardham Yatra gives you an opportunity to visit holy shrines namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath and also see the lifestyle of local people.

Every year, this spiritual journey begins in the month of April-May and then closes for six months soon after Deepawali. In the winter months, the shrines remain closed due to cold waves and heavy snowfall. In some places, even local migrate to plains for short period. The Chardham Yatra is a part of religious tourism which is spreading its roots in Uttarakhand state, slowly but steadily.

In the wake of this yatra, the state government has taken multiple concrete steps to ensure smooth flow of pilgrims. Due to high altitude, many tourists complain of chest pain and breathing problem.

Oxygen cylinders will be provided at such places.  At the dangerous trek route, doctors and health experts will be deployed. Medical facilities will be provided at all the religious spots and efficient doctor will monitor the health of pilgrims in case of any emergency. In case of land-sliding, cloud-bursting or any such natural calamity, the disaster management-related department will be ready to meet such events.
