Uttarakhand seeks central funds for ‘Ardha Kumbh Mela’

Uttarakhand government has sought special assistance of Rs 1,037 crore from the Centre for organising the ‘Ardha Kumbh Mela’ along the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar next year. Briefing Chief Minister Harish Rawat on preparations in view of the event at a review meeting on Thursday, Additional Chief Secretary Rakesh Sharma said that Rs 123 crore have been sanctioned for taking up 17 works of permanent nature in Haridwar.
He said that a special assistance of Rs 1,037 crore has also been demanded from the Centre for the purpose. According to him, sanction for another Rs 17 crore to be spent over seven works related to the Ardha Kumbh Mela will also be given soon.
