Uttarakhand governor remembers foresters

The foundation stone of the Foresters’ Memorial was laid by the the governor of Uttarakhand, Aziz Qureshi near by Brandis Road, FRI on 3 October 2012, in the presence of V K Bahuguna, director general, ICFRE, members of IFS Association and other senior officers of ICFRE, FRI and IGNFA. The governor, Uttrakhand announced Rs. 1 Lakh from his governor fund for the development of this memorial.
India is known for its diverse forest ecosystems and mega biodiversity. It ranks tenth among the most forested nations of the world with 23.4 per cent [76.87 mh] of its geographical area under forest and tree cover. India is one of the first countries in the world to have started the scientific management of the forest in 1864. The National Forest Policy 1988 emphasises and focuses on ensuring environmental stability, resorting ecological balance and preserving the forests.
