The initiative of Uttar Pradesh Government to use MNREGA money in digging up ponds came for appreciation from a Congress minister in Maharashtra government who said his government would also replicate this model of conservation of water.
The Maharashtra minister of MNREGA and Conservation of Water, Nitin Raut met UP's Rural Development Minister Arvind Singh Gope in his residence and held discussions about development in rural sector.
‘Our topic of discussion was the convergence points where UP and Maharashtra have identical problems and how both the state could share knowledge to resolve them,’ Gope said.
He had high praise of UP in utilisation of MNREGA in digging up ponds or renovation of existing ponds. ‘With this central funding the UP govt is able to recharge its ground water level. It is a big step towards conservation of water,’ Raut said.
