As expected, the budget session of Uttar Pradesh legislature on Thursday commenced on a stormy note when the opposition disrupted Governor B L Joshi's address to both the Houses leading to its adjournment in just three minutes.
As the House sat for the Governor's joint address, amid boycott by the BJP, the opposition led by Bahujan Samaj Party raised vociferous slogans, displaying banners against deteriorating law and order situation, raw deal to farmers and general failure of Akhilesh Yadav government in the state. Members from Rashtriya Lok Dal and Congress joined them.
The opposition members were on the feet and greeted the governor with ' Vapas Jao (go back) slogan as soon as Mr Joshi started his address. They threw paper missiles at the chair and continued to raise anti-government slogans. This continued despite an appeal from the Governor to patiently hear his address. The Governor could hardly speak for three minutes when he said he would end his address if the members did not want to listen to him. He immediately read out the last word 'Jai Hind' and moved out of the House.
State Parliamentary affairs minister Mohammad Azam Khan continued to lambast the opposition during the ruckus by saying that the previous government was full of 'goons' and was a ' corrupt government'. Later, the BSP and other opposition members went out of the house raising slogansagainst the government.
BJP had yesterday announced boycott of the Governor's address in protest against the stampede in Allahabad.
Leader of the opposition in the assembly Swami Prasad Maurya said that his party would continue to protest against the government inside the house till the government assures to give reply to the people’s issues.
