To enable earthquake resistant construction, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Building Materials Technology Promotion Council (BMPTC) have come out with ‘easy to use’ earthquake hazard zoning maps. The map has been designed for its uses at every level ranging from country to state and district level as features of tehsil level have also been incorporated.
The colour coded maps easily convey location in five different zones of earthquake intensity which helps in planning for disaster resistant construction with necessary technical assistance. The maps have been prepared by BMPTC of Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation at the behest of NDMA. The map was launched by Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday.
