Urban development ministry asks Delhi to regularise ‘farmhouses’

The Urban Development Ministry’s cabinet note to regularise, Sainik Farms, Anant Ram Dairy and Mahendru Enclave, which have been labelled as affluent unauthorised colonies, has raised many eyebrows, as these colonies are home to several politicians, businessmen, policemen and retired bureaucrats.

A senior official from the ministry said that the development norms in the Masterplan 2021 will be put under review. The development norms under focus will be the floor to area ratio and the number of floors.

The ministry wants to get a nod for the regularization of these three colonies in order to shield them from any kind of demolition in the future. The senior official also said that there had been much debate on what qualifies these colonies to be labelled as affluent colonies.

In 2006, a committee, headed by former Delhi Chief Secretary K K Mathur, had submitted a report to the ministry suggesting that heavy regularisation charges be put on these colonies. This report was, however, summarily rejected. The cabinet note to regularise these colonies has reportedly been fast-tracked and the ministry is reportedly waiting for comments from other ministries concerned.
