With uncertainty hanging over its fate following days of protest by aspirants demanding changes in the structure of the question paper, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Sunday conducted the civil service preliminary examinations. ‘Translation was better than previous examinations. Still some translations were not properly formulated. Since I am from Hindi medium background, I found difficulty in some questions. Rest of the paper was fine,’ said Anurag, an UPSC aspirant. Controversy around the examination started after aspirants staged violent protests demanding scrapping of the Civil Service Aptitude Test introduced in 2011 and postponement of the preliminary examination.
The government later said the English comprehension in paper II of the examination will not be counted for merit and gradation, and allowed the 2011 aspirants to appear for examination in 2015. On Saturday, the Supreme Court rejected a plea for postponement of the preliminary examination.
