Upadhyay writes to MLAs, councillors against promoting family members

In pursuance of the directions of prime minister Narendra Modi to public representatives against appointment of their close relatives as their private assistance or representatives, Delhi BJP chief on Saturday wrote letters to all BJP councillors and MLAs to keep their relatives away from government function.

‘It has been observed that the relatives of public representatives of the municipal corporations are always seen with them. It not only creates hindrance in government works and functions but also endangers its secrecy and dignity,’ said Satish Upadhyay in the letter. Though Upadhyay has made clear references to prime minister in his letter but the directions are being seen as an attempt to rein in the leaders who have assumed the role of councillors in the name of their women relatives as their seats were reserved for women candidates in 2012.

As one third seats of 272-member MCD were reserved for women in 2012, several leaders who were councillors pitched in female candidates of their families. ‘These leaders directly approach officers of the corporation for getting their work done. They even accompany the female councillors in the meetings of the house and various committees. The officers have complained about it several times,’ said Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, a delegation of senior Delhi BJP leaders and MLAs lead by Upadhayay me Union Minister Rajnath Singh and complaint the lackadaisical approach of bureaucracy in Delhi government. ‘The home minister has assured us to summon a meeting of lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung and senior officers of the government,’.
