‘UPA must go for fresh vedict’

On a day when the FDI debate in Parliament saw the ruling UPA-II Government sailing through, West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress stuck to its stand that the govt had lost its credibility and must take the fresh verdict of the people.

‘It is a shame! The mandate on Wednesday proves that the UPA-II is a minority Government. As against the majority figure of 271, based on the total strength of the House, the support was only 253, despite all attempts made by the selfish people’, wrote Banerjee on Facebook after the voting in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, senior Cabinet Minister of the Banerjee run govt, Subrata Mukherjee accused the ruling Congress-led coalition Government of ‘wheeling dealing’ with MPs in the run up to the FDI debate and voting. ‘The Congree has shown its true colours. As for the Samajwadi party and the BSP, by abstaining, they have only strengthened the hands of the UPA Government’, Mukherjee told Millennium Post. The TMC had approached all Opposition parties to support its no confidence motion against the UPA Government recently.

The TMC would however continue to campaign against allowing 51% FDI in retail at a national level.
