UPA govt must sell its success: Diggy

Asking the Congressmen not to fear about the scams, Congress general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh has asked party workers to aware the people about the achievements of the UPA government.

‘There is nothing to fear about the scams or the controversies coming out in media, but you should work for the people and aware them about the right thing,’ he said while admitting that there are some government lapses which has depressed the rank and file.

‘It was just a media hype about the scams when in reality nothing such things happened,’ he further claimed.

Addressing the delegate conference of the UP Congress Committee (UPCC), Singh asked the workers to ‘launch’ a campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to that the party could win maximum seats in the state. He also suggested that to revive the party in the state,the Vidhan Sabha candidates  for 2017 elections should be announced now so that they could get enough time to work for the people.

Mr Singh admitted that restriction on subsidized LPG cylinders had given a negative popularity to the party and now Government has decided to increase this cap to nine cylinders and very soon an announcement would be made in this regard while the demand of the party is one cylinder at least every month.

The Congress leader also supported the Reservation in Promotion issue and claimed that the people have been misled by some political parties as it was not against any caste or creed.

Meanwhile opening the conference,UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri announced that by January 15,the party organisation at the district level would be revamped.

Several senior leaders including union ministers Sriprakash Jaiswal, Jitin Prasada, RPN Singh, Congress MPs P L Punia, Raj Babbar, Mohsina Kidwai and Rashid Alvi were present.

However, senior ministers like Salman Khurshid and Beni Prasad Verma did not participated in the conference.

Digvijay Singh lauded the achievements of two tenure of the UPA government and said that RTI, MGNREGA and RTE have changed the entire scenario of the country.

Union coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal in his address said that the globalisation and economic reforms in the country would continue even there is a misconception propagated by the opposition that it would hit the common people.

‘’The decisions of the Congress government in the early 1990’s were yielding good results now.

similarly nuclear Deal and FDI in retail would start giving results in future,’’ he claimed.

The Union minister also called on the party workers to propagate the achievements of the UPA government among the masses to counter the opposition.

Congress MP and chairperson of the Commission for Schedule Caste P L Punia clarified that the reservation in promotion Bill would not at all affect the upper caste or backward employees. ‘’Some political parties are trying to take mileage by confusing the people,’’ he said.

Punia also disclosed that Rahul Gandhi will lead the party only when Congress gets absolute majority in the Lok Sabha.

CWC member and Bollywood star Raj Babbar also lauded the achievements of the Union government and claimed that  the party will do well in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

During the delegate conference, political and economic resolutions were also passed by the leaders. The resolution demanded 12 subsidized LPG cylinders while supported the FDI in retail  and reservation in promotion Bill.
