UP health minister conducts a surprise inspection of Noida District Hospital

In the wake of constant complaints about the shortage of medicines and basic amenities at the District Hospital in Sector 39, Noida, UP health minister, Nitin Aggarwal on Tuesday paid a surprise visit and supervised the functioning of the hospital. He slammed hospital officials for providing poor medical facilities to the patients.

During the inspection, Aggarwal found out that the hospital, that was set-up at a whopping budget of Rs 510 crore, was lacking in basic amenities such as water, medicines and equipments. ‘I came here for surprise supervision and I am appalled to see that the hospital lacks basic facilities. The patients are being asked to purchase medicines from chemists outside the hospital, when it is mandatory for them to provide medicines,’ he said.

He also slammed the chief medical officer of the hospital for not taking action. He said, ‘I will inform the chief minister about the situation of the hospital and will demand inquiry against the CMO for his lax attitude.’

Opened in October last year, the UP government had promised advanced medical equipments and quality medical care at minimal costs. However, since its inauguration, it has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, including lack of medical equipments and desired staff.

Meanwhile, he also said that the much-awaited 500-bed multi-specialty hospital near the Gautam Budh University in Greater Noida will be operational from July. The hospital would be part of a medical university that is proposed to house all related facilities of medical education, including the provision of MBBS, BDS and MDS degrees. The hospital will spread across 10 acres of land is estimated to cost the state exchequer Rs 939 crore.
