UP govt wants all numbers to show up!

Uttar Pradesh government is coming out with a fresh policy to control the growing trend of Caller Line Identity Restricted (CLIR) facilities in which the callers numbers are not displayed on the receivers’ mobiles.

The receivers mobiles display 'private number' when the  person with this facility calls somebody and his identity is concealed by  the mobile operator.

‘The state government has banned such facility simply because of its misuse and as a security threat in a larger perspective,’ an official spokesman said here.

Hundreds of private subscribers had been using this facility  on different networks treating it more as a 'status-symbol' hence the government banned CLIR until the fresh guidelines were issued, the spokesman added.

From now onwards, the CLIR facilities could be availed by only those persons who had permission from the state government with no role of local administration into this. Earlier,a simple application with some additional payment was enough to get this facility which was found to be extremely dangerous in view of the security concerns. Currently, only 16 numbers have been allowed to use this facility.
