UP govt launches special scheme for Muslim girls

The UP state government will launch its much ambitious scheme from Rampur on 10 December in which Class X pass Muslim girls would be given money for either further education or marriage.

The scheme for which the government has earmarked Rs 250 crore in the Supplementary Budget, that was passed in the state Assembly early last week has been named as ‘Hamari Beti Uska Kal’. Under this scheme the Class X pass girls from the minority communities would be given Rs 30,000 that could be used either for further education or for her marriage.

This money would be distributed in form of cheques to the beneficiaries. A government spokesman said that on December 10 over 15,000 girls would get cheques for Kanya Vidyadhan as well as Hamari Beti Uska Kal scheme. ‘Apart from Muslims, girls from other minority communities like Christianity, Sikhism, Parsi and Jainism would get this benefit also,’ the spokesman said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would preside over the function and would personally hand over the cheques to the beneficiaries. Rampur is an important Muslim base for the Samajwadi Party and Urban Development and Muslim Welfare Minister Azam Khan belongs to this place. Therefore, the government officials are taking all pains to ensure this programme’s success. In a preparatory meeting held here Chief Secretary Javed Usmani said that all the eligible girls from Moradabad Division would be ferried in state-run buses to the function venue. A women constable and a senior woman officer would be deployed with each bus, Usmani said. Directives have been issued to Divisional Commissioner of Moradabad to ensure strict security at the venue during the function.
