UP for inclusion of 17 MBCs in SC category

In a bid to consolidate its base among the most backward castes, the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh has said it will send its recommendation to the union government to include 17 Most Backward Castes into the schedule caste category. While promising this, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also announced that Nishadraj Jayanti on 5 April will be declared as a public holiday.
The CM said the SP govt will remove all hindrances in the way of getting these 17 MBCs into the category of SCs. He said the previous BSP government has derailed system and all the money was spent on parks, memorials and statues.
The CM said the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in 2005 had extended the facilities given to SCs to 17 most backward castes, but BSP terminated it after coming to power in 2007. ‘We had promised in our manifesto to include 17 MBCs into the category of SCs. We are going to fulfill it,’ Yadav said. These MBCs included Rajbhar, Nishad, Mallah, Kashyap, Kumhar, Dheemar, Prajapati, Bind, Kewat, Bhar, Batham, Machhua, Turha, Manjhi, Gaur and Kanhar. State BJP president Lakshmikant Bajpai said the government was promising what wasn’t in its jurisdiction.
