UP cops clash in public view; Akhilesh orders suspension

Two constables deployed outside a venue where chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was to address CII meet had a verbal dual over their duty position before chief minister came, and when he left after addressing entrepreneurs, the two cops attacked each other with lathis leaving them injured – one of them bleeding profusely.
It was an unusual spectacle when people witnessed two PAC jawans attacking each other with lathis.
This happened so fast that other security personnel standing there were caught unawares and before they could intervene both the cops were bleeding profusely with head injuries.
Head constable Mukun Yadav and Constable Sunil Dixit have been suspended and government has initiated process to terminate their services for ‘bringing disgrace to Provincial Armed Constabulary’.
IG (law and order) R K Vishwakarma said that both the cops were on duty for the Uttar Pradesh Entrepreneurs Meet at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. ‘It started with exchange of words but later they came to blows and used their lathis as weapon,’ the IG said.
Police said before the function began Dixit went to have pan. When Yadav came to now about it he telephoned Dixit on his mobile and asked him to come back immediately. Dixit had an exchange of words but the ugly situation was averted as CM’s fleet arrived there.
After the function was over the duo again entered into a verbal dual and in no time started hitting each other with lathi. Both the injured cops have been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Vishwakarma said both the PAC jawans have been arrested by SSP Lucknow.
‘A report is being sent to Commandant 10 PAC and they will be terminated from the service after departmental action. Misconduct and indiscipline will not be tolerated,’ he said.
BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that the incident reflects the state of law and order in the state. What image the entrepreneurs had carried with them. When cops do not have patience and they clash with each other over petty issues how can they deal with public with compassion, he asked.
