UP Cong heading for major revamp

Uttar Pradesh Congress is going for a major revamp by the end of this month before newly-appointed party in-charge Madhusudan Mistri along with his four deputies makes his maiden visit to the state on 28 June.

The revamp will include changes in office-beares and city and district party presidents. Primary meeting of the zonal heads of the party is over and the party’s state unit head will only give a final shape to the report.   

According to party sources Congress general secretary and in-charge of the state Mistri along with his four deputies – Naseeb Singh, Prakash Joshi, Rana Goswami and Juber Khan – would be in the state capital on 28 June. The directives from high command is to revamp the entire party organisation before the arrival of Mistry. The new team is expected to start its state- wide programme from second week of July.

Congress is also contemplating to hold a big conference in Lucknow in July to counter the BJP’s Modi factor with a stress on the upper caste voters 
Though the conference will be organised to promote Sanskrit by a non-political organisation Congress president Sonia Gandhi is also likely to attend the meet,’ the party leader said.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) had appointed Mistri and other four secretaries on 16 June and they have held meeting with UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri a couple of times to discuss the ways and means to strengthen the party base in the state.

Khatri held discussions with the zonal in-charges in New Delhi. ‘The eight zonal in-charges have presented their plan on revival of the party. The UPCC chief sought clarification on their reports,’ sources said.

The new Congress state committee comprising district and city presidents is likely to be cleared by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi before Mistri comes to Lucknow on 28 June.
