Unscheduled outages continue in East Delhi

The peak power demand of Delhi recorded the highest at 5,528 Mega Watts on Wednesday evening. Unscheduled outages continued across the city and the worst affected area was east Delhi where 2-3 hour-long outages were reported.

‘The humidity in the atmosphere forced extensive use of air conditioners which led to highest power demand close to last year’s peak demand of 5,653 mw. It is expected that the maximum power demand will cross 6,000 mw this summer,’ said a power department official. Confusion over outages in east Delhi continued as the power department claimed no major faults on their part.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) will hold a public hearing on 20 and 21 June to determine the power tariff for domestic consumers.

The DERC has already received petitions from three power distribution companies which demanded substantial hike in tariff last month.
