Unravelling corporate secrets

First book at the age of 16 is quiet a feat. Where did the idea of writing a book emerged from?

Writing is something that I greatly enjoy and therefore I don’t need to force myself into it. It comes to me naturally and I consider it to be an enjoyable hobby. There is, of course, a massive dedication in terms of time but I feel as though it blends in nicely with my free time.

The Gentlemen of Finance is a very catchy title. Going by the ring of it, it seems to be related to the financial world. Tell us more about it.

The novel revolves around the exploits of bankers who live in a city where the world of organized crime has blended in with the corporate sector in a realistic way. The characters spend their time developing and enforcing strategies to get ahead of their competitors and are generally prepared to consider any means necessary.

From my understanding, your protagonist William Mulligan seems to be in an enviable investment banker. Do you relate or aspire to be like him?

I believe that Mulligan is a character fit for his setting. In reality, I hope to share a few attributes with him but generally be my own person. He is not someone I relate to but someone who I believe carries a few traits, such as his calculated thought process, that everyone should aspire to possess.

The book is set in England. Was there a particular reason for this setting?

Its is set in England because I felt I could authentically write about the UK as I currently go to a boarding school in Scotland and have spent a lot of time in this country.

Your book launched in the capital amidst a lot of fanfare on 8 April. What sort of feedback did you get out of your readers?

I received a generally positive response from readers. They seemed to like the narrative and I’m simply glad that I was able to make the novel enjoyable for them to read.

After a positive feedback to your first novel, what are you writing next?

I have a few ideas for my next novel but I haven’t yet completed any concrete work due to my ongoing school exams.
