‘University of Medicines on cards’

In a move aimed at bringing all schools of medicine under one roof, the Centre has mulled setting up a university of medicines, which will provide a place of pride to all schools of medicines including allopathic and traditional. The proposed university would carry out documentation of diseases and their treatment through various traditional practices.

Stating that the prevalence of <g data-gr-id="22">lifestyle related</g> non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes etc., is on the rise in the country, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, “The lifestyle-based non-communicable diseases have added the burden of already existing communicable disease. The University of Medicines will be a repository of all knowledge on communicable and non-communicable diseases and help us to broaden our understanding towards traditional medicines and its benefits. This new institute will do research in the field of lifestyle diseases and its cure with traditional as well as allopathic medicines.”

“Mon-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic respiratory diseases are reaching epidemic proportions worldwide and India is no exception to this health catastrophe. Over 6 crore people in India are affected by this disease and there is a rising trend of this disease in our society, Nadda said.
