A decomposed body of a woman in her early 20s was found in a gunny sack in north-west Delhi. The girl has not been identified so far.
According to police, a passerby made a PCR call at 8.45 am on Thursday informing them about a gunny bag that was lying abandoned near a park. The incident was reported from K-Block of Wazirpur JJ Colony of north-west district.
‘When a team reached the spot, they found a decomposed body of a woman inside the bag. Locals were contacted to identify her, but so far she has not been identified,’ said a police official.
The preliminarily investigation revealed that the girl has been murdered somewhere else and later she was dumped near the park. The official added, ‘injury marks have been noticed on the neck of the deceased, that pinpoints towards murder by strangulation.’
The woman bore a tattoo on the left forearm that states, ‘Bharat and Devi’. The police are verifying with the list of missing persons to identify the deceased.
P Karunakarn, Additional Commissioner of police [north-west] who visited the crime scene said, ‘The body has been sent for the postmortem examination and the reports are still awaited. There is a possibility that she has been sexually assaulted. According to the initial investigation, it seems that she was murdered a day before she was dumped.’
A senior official added that a case under the appropriate sections has been registered in Bharat Nagar police station against the unidentified person. ‘The investigation is on and we will soon find out the main culprit behind the murder,’ he said.
