The Uttarakhand government says it is taking steps to battle drug addiction, especially among students in the state capital, even as Chief Minister Harish Rawat issued a stern warning on Monday to chemists not to sell some medicines without prescription from doctors.
The government has warned of raids against such medical shops, beetle shops and kiosks in and around educational institutions to check the menace, and said that a combined team of health department, police and local administration will go for random checking at several sensitive places.
“The combined team of health department, police and local administration should randomly check the license, stalk and register of medical stores,” Rawat said.
Rawat in a meeting here said that medical store, shops and paan-kiosks in and around educational institutions should be on strict vigil and activities of students should be watched by institute’s in-house administration.
If any chemist found guilty of selling some medicines without doctors’ prescription, legal action will be taken against him and its license will be cancelled.
